Theosophy stems from the Greek words of theos and sophia, which translates to divine and wisdom respectively. Theosophy is the study of higher truths.
The Theosophical Society endeavours to aid seekers on the journey of life and to discover the mystery of their own being. Theosophy, or the ancient wisdom, can be found as a body of knowledge through the study of science, religion, ancient texts, philosophy, and internally through experiential learning/connection.
The mission of Theosophy NZ:
To serve humanity by cultivating an ever-deepening understanding and realisation of the Ageless Wisdom, spiritual self-transformation, and the Unity of all Life.
Auckland HPB Lodge:
The Theosophical Society was established in Auckland in 1892 with the objective of promoting the exploration of Theosophy in our local community here in Auckland.
Our beautiful HPB Lodge Library is open to all people to browse. We provide a wide range of ancient texts, material from theosophy and various religions, philosophical teachings, biographies of some very interesting individuals, yoga, and more. We also offer members the opportunity to attend events, guest speakers, study and discussion groups, and practical elements including different types of meditation.
Auckland HPB Lodge is a place where the Auckland community can study, reflect, and share both knowledge and connection over a cup of tea alongside like-minded individuals.
More about Theosophy:
Theosophy endeavours to help answer the deeper questions many ponder in life such as Who we are? Why we are here? Where did we come from? and Where are we going?
The ancient wisdom, or Theosophy, is considered to be a discovery of truth from within ourselves, not just within texts. The ancient wisdom can be found inside each individual and is deeply integrated with our connection to the world, those around us, and our inner selves.
We welcome individuals from all faiths and denominations and allow each person to find the truth that resonates with them. While Theosophy offers ideals and universal principles, people are free to accept or reject these teachings. The Theosophical Society does not limit an individual to a set belief system. Instead, the Theosophical Society simply provides resources to aid in each person’s discovery of truth and respects each person on their individual journey.
The establishment of the Theosophical Society:
The modern Theosophical movement was founded in 1875 with the establishment of the Theosophical Society in New York city by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (HPB), Henry Steel Olcott and others. It has grown into a worldwide movement, with branches extending across the globe.
Theosophical principles have been found amongst various ancient texts and spiritual figures throughout the past and across the globe. Theosophical teachings have also existed under other names throughout various religions.
Service work:
Here at the Auckland HPB branch, we are closely connected with the Theosophical Order of Service (TOS) in New Zealand.
The TOS affords us an opportunity to give back to the community through service and operates both in New Zealand and overseas.
The HPB Lodge has helped to raise funds for the TOS through various projects, including our second-hand book table.
The TOS founded the Golden Link College in the Philippines and the New Zealand TOS supports this beautiful endeavour and sponsors children in both India and Pakistan. The TOS has also established literacy centres in Pakistan and a school in India, all of which the TOS New Zealand supports.
Closer to home, the TOS has funded the New Zealand Teen Parent Unit at He Puaawai in the Waikato, which provides supports for young women and their children. The TOS has also contributed towards the Here2Care charity, which help youths and their families get ahead in life.
